So you have written great content. You guest posted, and you socialized your content like a maniac. You generated backlinks and promoted awesome products. But why do you still want to tear your hair out trying to figure out how to make money from your blog?
Chances are, you are doing it wrong. Instead of spending all your time trying to get more and more traffic to your blog, why not spend time increasing its conversion?
If you are serious about boosting your website conversions, then you need a highly optimized landing page.
Whether you want to grow your email list or sell a product/service – you need landing pages.
Why?
When you remove the distractions such as widgets and sidebars, you get a highly focused page.
This page will have just one clear goal: TO CONVERT.
Do you know that Dell uses more than 1,000 landing pages?
Yeah, so what’s the big deal about this?
Simple: those landing pages actually convert up to 300%! This is a totally higher than the actual webpages of the company.
What’s more, only about 22% of the businesses in the world are satisfied with their conversion rates.
Which makes me ask one important question: Why isn’t every business using landing pages if the evidence is so substantial that they work so well?
There’s really no logic behind it. But luckily you can add a landing page to your own WordPress site without spending much time or money.
In fact, in my experience, a landing page is typically one of the easiest components of a website to implement. And this is true even for those with limited technological knowledge.
We’ve covered how to build a WordPress landing page from scratch before, but that can be a huge task for beginner WordPress users. So in this post we’ll be covering plugins instead.
So, the question is – how can you create your own landing pages without having to hire a developer to create the page for you?
You are better off creating a landing page if you want to effectively promote a product or service.
Typically, a landing page won’t include the logo, header menu, sidebar, and other elements of your site. So there are less distractions, and the visitor will just be focused on what you have to say in the landing page.
This canvas becomes an excellent opportunity for you to promote what you are offering to visitors. Their attention cannot be drawn away from your message.
A landing page is a very important aspect of online marketing. It is where you can display your sales copy. It also becomes the logical extension of your advertisement, link or search result.
We already covered how to make a landing page from scratch in one of our previous posts, but we will talk about how to make one using plugins.
You don’t have to be a professional to create stylish, attractive and effective landing pages.
While there are some WordPress themes that include a landing page template, you can choose to code one yourself. But if you are not as techie and experienced, you can instead use landing page plugins.
But because there are hundreds of choices available, one may find it tedious and well, daunting at the very least. So what we did was look at these plugins and collect the best ones. Take note that all these plugins were reviewed by real users, based on different criteria.
These plugins will make it easier for you to jumpstart your own landing pages, and will help you save money, time and effort, too.
OptimizePress Premium WordPress Plugin
OptimizePress is the king of landing page tools, and it integrates with WordPress just like any other plugin. It is a bit pricey, though, and everything should be purchased in their package, even if you want to just try out the landing pages.
But those things aside, the system is designed to make exquisite and easy to use landing pages. It comes with a wealth of tools at your fingertips.
OptimizePress also comes with membership portals that help improve customer retention. It also gives exclusivity to your loyal members.
It is complete with launch funnels that will guide your customers throughout the entire sales process. The plugin also helps you build authority blogs so that you will have more leverage when you sell your products.
Because OptimizePress is a company and not just a plugin, you can access a large community via their website. Here, you will also have access to a responsive support team and a thriving marketplace.
If you want to get the most value out of your money, and you don’t want to worry about the technical side, OptimizePress is a great choice.
Radar Landing Page Plugin
Radar is a well-designed landing page and maintenance mode plugin.
While designed to be a landing page, it is also flexible enough to serve different purposes. You can use it to create temporary mini-sites, maintenance mode splash page and a promotional page.
Radar is partnered with MailChimp and Campaign Monitor API and makes it simple to collect email addresses. With the completely responsive design, it scales to iPad, iPhone and other mobile devices.
Its rate is 4.5 out of 5 stars in recent reviews, and its strongest point is its super clean and responsive design.
Thrive Content Builder
Thrive Content Builder is an incredibly powerful plugin. It is designed to help you not only create high converting landing pages, but also custom page layouts.
Thrive Landing Pages are part of the Thrive Content Builder plugin package, so if you buy that you get them included (or vice versa).
It features a handy drag & drop editor plus conversion focused page elements along with a large selection of templates.
The Content Builder Plugin also comes with some very well built and designed page elements that can come in very handy like:
- Layout elements (boxes, dividers, columns etc)
- Images, Buttons, Text
- Maps, Testimonials, Optin Forms, Icons and much more
What you’ll love about how templates are organized is how they are designed in sets. This makes it super easy to keep your pages consistent.
With each set you’ll find a landing page, thank you page and confirmation page. For some sets you’ll find additional templates. These include video opt-in pages, sales pages, coming soon pages and more.
Features:
- The drag and drop visual editor makes it easier to highly customize the landing pages
- The plugin features a wide selection of templates in sets, which is perfect if you want to keep your pages consistent
- You can create your very own templates, thus allows you to save time
- You can manage revisions easily and you can revert to a much earlier version if you choose to
- The plugin supports a two step opt-in form that will boost your conversions
- You can add opt-in forms direct from Thrive Leads into your landing page
- The plugin is mobile responsive, enhancing your visitors’ experience
- Thrive supports any email provider using custom HTML forms
Priced at $59, Thrive Content Builder is an excellent option for serious online marketers who are looking to boost their online conversions with top of the line landing pages.
WP Lead Plus Free Squeeze Page Creator
WP Lead Plus Free is a useful WordPress plugin that is designed to help users create stunning squeeze pages. It comes with a revolutionary edit system which helps you easily edit anything in few clicks.
It is also flexible, even every part of the squeeze page is editable. Moreover, it comes with flexible video options, background options, and multiple color choices.
The plugin received 3.9 stars out of 5 stars in recent user reviews. It’s strongest points are its easy logo integration and resizable option widgets.
Ultimate Landing Page Free WordPress Plugin
The Ultimate Landing Page plugin provides both landing pages and ‘Coming Soon’ pages. You can switch these off or on, depending on whether you are launching a new site or not.
The templates are nicely organized, too. You can integrate a form from Gravity Forms or the Contact Form 7 plugin to bring in submissions with your landing or coming soon page.
One of its strongest points is the MailChimp integration. This is great for those who want to boost their email list size while selling a product or announcing an upcoming website.
This is actually one of the few plugins that includes a custom CSS/JS field in case you know a little bit about code customization. This is a great chance for companies to change the way these templates look to fit their brands.
Keep in mind that the ‘Coming Soon’ page is a form of the landing page, so that’s why quite a few plugins pair these two components together.
Ultimate Landing Page and Coming Soon Page is rather similar to the Ultimate Landing Page plugin we just talked about. It just has more email list management integrations like AWeber. And the customization is a little easier in my opinion.
Note that the Ultimate Landing Page plugin mentioned above you can punch in your own CSS for solid customization. This plugin, however, is more user-friendly. It has quick settings changes for things like colors, fonts, backgrounds and headlines.
Qards
Qards is a new creation by the guys over at Designmodo. The plugin offers interesting landing page building functionality that works with most WordPress themes.
Starting at $99, this plugin is a bit pricey, but it allows you access to different types of solo content cards. You can put these cards in a sequence using a drag-and-drop interface. Also, each card can be adjusted through the front-end editor.
Features
- Full drag-and-drop support (including media uploads straight from your desktop)
- In-line editing right on the front-end
- Fully responsive and mobile-friendly landing pages
- No design or coding skills required in order to use the plugin
- A big set of great-looking content cards available
- Custom CSS and HTML editors for advanced users
- Works with WooCommerce
- Video tutorials available
Qards is so easy to use — you can get started right away without reading any docs. Every individual card looks great and needs very little in terms of customization.
The plugin also lets you keep your theme running most of the site and just using the plugin for individual landing pages. Qards is also great because it allows you to turn any landing page into your homepage.
There are a few downsides to this plugin, though. For one, there’s no native marketing-related landing page functionality. It would have been great if there’s a function like conversion tracking or split testing.
It’s a bit pricey. Especially the Agency license, which although it’s priced at $199, only allows you to use the plugin on a mere five sites.
SeedProd
SeedPro sells a Coming Soon and maintenance page plugin. This may seem standard at first glance, but the plugin really pulls its weight with its designs.
You will find that the landing pages from SeedPro are very beautiful. So it is a great choice if you are looking for the “wow-factor”.
This plugin is a great way to let your readers know what you’ve got in the works. It also has integration with various email marketing platforms such as MailChimp and Aweber. This gives you the ability to reach out to potential customers before you launch.
Parallax Gravity Landing Page Builder Free WordPress Plugin
The Parallax plugin isn’t all that well-known, but it certainly deserves a mention on this list. It is an option worth considering for those who want a minimalist-style landing page.
The page creation interface is clean and so are the templates offered. Simply grab a template, change the background and include whatever shortcodes you want to make it look just right.
The templates work well on most devices, so you won’t have to worry about those people who browse the web on their phones.
And if you want more features, upgrade to Parallax Gravity Pro.
You can create unlimited responsive landing pages full of content, with a completely custom look. This is achieved by the following features:
- Unlimited backgrounds
- Favicon support
- Custom parallax animations
- Custom css support
- Columns
- Titles
- Buttons and more
It’s definitely worth the $16 investment.
Thrive Landing Pages Premium WordPress Plugin
Thrive is a premium landing page plugin for WordPress, but it’s worth the cash if you’re willing to part with it. Compared to the free landing pages, the premium sets offered by Thrive are better by a few notches. They are designed to effectively convert emails. This way, you really don’t have to wonder whether the templates are professional-tested or not.
The advanced lead generation components that help my emails and other information are great. So you can call or email folks who sign up on your landing page.
So far, this is one of the best plugins for incorporating media. It is best if you have a nice product video, as you can throw it on the landing page right next to an email opt-in form or something similar to that.
You’ll notice on their webpage that the template backgrounds aren’t just solid colors. What you can do is upload your own images and logo, along with backdrops to make the pages more appealing to the eye.
You also get a few other marketing tools such as squeeze pages to further improve your conversion rates.
WP Mobile Splash Page Premium WordPress Plugin
Another tool you might need is a mobile landing page.
With a WP Mobile Splash Page you can create quick and concise mobile landing pages that load fast for users on the go. It also has easy to click links to your products or services.
The strongest point of this plugin is it has nearly limitless styling options. This is on top of being compatible to most themes. This means that you can create pixel-perfect mobile landing pages that match your desktop site.
Beaver Builder
Beaver Builder is a slick plugin which is great for building your own landing pages or custom page layouts.
The interface is straight forward to use and there are a number of great looking templates to get you started.
Most of the templates are focused on building homepage layouts. This includes a variety of pages with call to action buttons and others with opt-in forms.
There are other page templates too for the likes of blog pages, about pages, portfolio pages and more.
Beaver Builder integrates with email providers (e.g. AWeber and MailChimp) via API.
The only downside we saw is that we can’t find a custom HTML form option. It’s unfortunate as this does limit support for email providers somewhat.
Currently, the following email providers are supported:
- AWeber
- Campaign Monitor
- Constant Contact
- GetResponse
- iContact
- Mad Mimi
- MailChimp
- SendinBlue
While this does include all of the most popular providers, there are still a lot of others which aren’t supported. It’s likely if more people ask for integration with new providers, it may be added.
The “lite” version:
There is a lite version of Beaver Builder available on WordPress.org.
The plugin can give you a good taste of what the premium version has to offer and for some, it may be enough to do what you need.
So what don’t you get in the lite version which you get in the premium versions?
The main differences include limited modules. For example modules such as call to action and opt-in forms aren’t included. And you don’t have the option to use any of the included templates.
Features:
- Slick drag & drop interface shows you exactly how the finished page will look
- Choose which devices certain elements appear responsive on
- Plenty of beautiful templates to help you in the landing page creation process
- Beaver Builder theme available on pro package
- Add WordPress widgets directly onto your landing pages
- Add elements such as opt-in forms, calls to action, contact forms, pricing tables and maps to your pages
- Price: $99
LeadPages
The landing page featured in the image above took around 5 minutes to create using LeadPages.
So what is LeadPages exactly? It’s not strictly JUST a WordPress plugin. It is a landing page creation and lead generation platform that connects to WordPress with the help of a plugin.
It also supports any HTML website, so you can use it with any other platform you wish to. The key element which stands out here is how LeadPages is designed.
With the LeadPages editor, it’s immediately apparent that advanced customization isn’t possible. You can customize colors, backgrounds, images etc – but not much more than that.
Here’s why this is a GREAT thing:
With most other landing page creation tools, they have so many options that building a page can take a long time to get right.
By having limited customization options, you can use LeadPages to create landing pages quickly. Sure, it’s not perfect for every situation, but if you don’t have time to spend on customization – this is perfect!
With other tools like LeadPages, they usually limit the number of websites you can use and the amount of traffic you can have. Thankfully LeadPages gives you unlimited websites and unlimited traffic.
LeadPages are constantly pushing boundaries. They are constantly rolling out small changes to certain parts of their platform.
For example, they test how well certain elements in their opt-in forms/landing pages convert. They then roll out these changes to new opt-in forms/landing pages.
As well as creating landing pages, you can create clickable popovers. You can then display them on any website that supports HTML.
You can also choose other trigger options for these popovers which include – timer, scroll and exit intent.
Features:
- Create landing pages fast with the help of an intuitive editor
- Choose from over 70 incredible templates. These include webinar pages, squeeze pages, sales pages, thank you pages and more.
- Choose your template based on average conversion rates
- Deploy clickable popovers (2-step opt-ins called LeadBoxes) on any website that supports HTML.
- Add opt-in form popovers to your website with the option of using timed, scroll or exit intent triggers
- Monitor conversions for your landing pages and LeadBoxes with built-in analytics
- Setup split tests to boost your conversions within a few clicks. This works for both landing pages and LeadBoxes but is only available on higher tier pricing plans
- Automatically email PDF downloads to new subscribers
- Supports a wide variety of email providers via API integration. It is possible to use any platform that supports custom HTML forms (although it’s not fully supported, it can be done)
- Marketplace available to purchase additional templates (if you need them)
At $37 per month, this plugin is well worth it, depending on your budget and needs.
Instabuilder
If you are looking for a professional plugin to build related landing pages and sales pages, this is a great choice. This tool is designed to save time, and get the same quality that you can get when hiring a designer. But, this time with a cheap price and you have a total control.
Unlike the free tools, this one lets you add any content to your pages. For example, people can insert videos, images, tables, and everything else with one click of the button.
The plugin comes with premium quality features. These include exit redirect, the countdown timer, and the Facebook opt in. At the same time, you get a full responsive design and no work is required to make your pages user-friendly and SEO optimized. Also, there are the social media sharing buttons, and much more options to build the best landing pages.
There are many different designs for you to choose from. The colours (the next drop down menu that is after the design drop down) that are available depend on the design you have chosen.
One noticeable downside is that you can’t find a page that clearly shows what each type of page and design looks like. You have to keep on saving your work and seeing what it looks like.
You can see that it is really easy to put a sales, squeeze and landing pages together. You just follow through the menu options for customizing your pages, and you just put in what you want to say in the usual posting area.
You can easily insert your opt-in code that you get straight from your email list provider. You don’t have to worry about styling it, as the plugin styles it depending on the page type and design that you chose.
You can easily add in some video, any code (such as your google analytics code, and any scripts that you want on the page), and disqus or facebook comments. You can choose if you want to display your logo or not, and also configure it to display your own background.
The plugin also comes with heaps of really cool buttons you can add to your pages, not just your instabuilder pages. You can access them from a button right near the usual place you add media. There are many different types of buttons to choose from. I have pictures of two below.
VelocityPage
VelocityPage is a great plugin built by WordPress core contributor Mark Jaquith. Jaquith built the plugin with an understanding of the limitations of most WP themes and landing pages. His insight on what a landing page must do makes VelocityPage a great plugin.
You can activate this plugin on any page you choose. And you can opt to use your current theme as the base of the webpage. Or you can switch to templates that come with the plugin.
Features:
- Front-end editing with full drag-and-drop support
- WooCommerce compatibility
- Aweber and MailChimp opt-in forms
- Mobile-optimized output
- Possibility to use custom HTML
- A number of predefined content blocks you can use on any page
- Promises to work with 94% of all WordPress themes
One of the biggest pros here is that you get a selection of pre-made landing page templates together with the plugin. With these, you can quickly create the following:
- Opt-in pages
- Landing pages for eBooks
- Pages for apps
- Pages for webinars, and more.
No coding or design skills required to use the plugin.
One of the downsides of this plugin is it lacks representation of the exact form of the page being edited. Although, the front-end editing feature is really useful. But you always need to switch to a live preview once in a while, which can be a hassle.
Oh, and it’s a bit expensive. The top-of-the-line Professional license is $247.
And the Winners Are….
As previously mentioned, it is hard to choose the best WordPress landing page plugins because of the number of choices. Not only that, we all have different expectations and requirements in terms of quality.
So let’s shortlist the choices to the top 5 landing page plugins and tackle this from different angles. Let’s also point out the best reasons why they should be on your top priority list.
WordPress Landing Pages
It’s a good WordPress plugin for a beginner user who just wants to get started working with landing pages.
The setup is simple. It comes with a visual editor with the pre-made templates. This makes launching a good-enough landing page possible, even if you don’t have any design or coding chops.
Also, you can integrate your landing page with an email delivery service or any other back-end solution. Keep in mind, though, that those additional modules come with a price tag.
Parallax Gravity – Landing Page Builder. It’s a basic plugin, but it can still be very useful if your current theme doesn’t support landing pages in any way. With this WordPress plugin, you can keep using your theme on your entire site. You can then use a custom design that came with the plugin on individual landing pages.
Qards
It has next to no learning curve at all; you can just jump in and begin using it. This makes it a great solution for site owners who want to get the job done fast with as high-quality results as possible.
With this plugin, you effectively don’t need a professional designer to build your landing pages anymore.
Thrive Content Builder
It’s a great solution for anyone who’s building new landing pages on a regular basis and needs a fast and easy way to get the work done. Therefore, it’s perhaps a plugin more suited to the heavy users among us.
Thrive Landing Pages vs Lead Pages
Many of you may have been using Lead Pages and want to use an alternative. Yes, there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s always better to have a backup plugin for a different landing page style.
So what makes Thrive Landing Pages different than Lead Pages?
- Thrive Landing Pages is a one time cost. LeadPages is per month/year
- Thrive Content Builder is a lot easier to use, and you can use it on your whole site (Leadpages is contained on their website)
- LeadPages has a lot more templates, a lot of them you pay extra for in their marketplace
- LeadPages comes with some optin capabilities (LeadBoxes) which you only get with which is separate product, but overall a better one)
- LeadPages has Facebook integration which is great if you want to collect likes on Facebook or leads via a Facebook page
- LeadPages hosts your pages for you, so you don’t need a website, and they load very fast
VelocityPage
This is a plugin offering advanced customization possibilities. It also comes with some great landing page templates out of the box.
It is an excellent solution for site owners who want to explore different landing page types such as opt-ins and webinars. The plugin is customizable so you can keep the main theme for the rest of the site.
LeadPages
Due to the high cost of using this whole service, it’ll be more useful to the heavy-hitters among us. It provides a ton of possibilities in terms of options, tested landing page designs, lead capture methods, and so on. In short, it’s the best solution on the list if you can only afford it.
Pro Tips for Better Landing Pages
It is important to focus on the user experience first when you create landing pages. This is the key to better conversions. After that, always be testing.
Do not bog down your landing page with too much content. You don’t want to overwhelm your customers and lower your conversion.
You can optimize your landing page by asking relevant questions. Pique the visitor’s interest in your story or the product.
To get the best opt-in rates, the content should be at the center of the page. And of course, your headline must be head-twistingly catchy. Use two colors as a maximum and never let the user scroll down to read the page, you need a short paragraph to boost the conversion.
In other words, put yourself in your visitors place. Then ask yourself what can improve your landing page conversions. You will find great ideas if you ask a friend, for example to suggest changes.
Also, don’t over do the split testing, it’s created to find the ideal designs and layout. But, if you spend all the time testing, things won’t be good for you. Take it easy and go with a few tests and find a final conclusion about your designs.
Final Thoughts
Landing pages are one of the best marketing tools that can bring you more business. And what’s great about them is that you won’t have to spend more funds on acquiring new leads.
And it is much better to have more landing pages, as you are sure to get better results.
According to HubSpot, websites with more than 10 landing pages are bound to get 55% more conversions than those with less than 10.
Setting up landing pages with plugins is fairly easy. However, your marketing strategy has to be sound enough to push people towards your landing pages. You should consider your landing pages as solutions for your potential customers who end up to your site.
Then, the landing page will do what it’s designed to do: improve your conversions.
Ultimately, it is important to note that there isn’t a “one size fits all” principle in choosing the right landing page plugin. What works for other people may not work for you. The best option depends on your needs and your goals.
It is also critical to understand just what you really want to achieve and the features that are important to you.
For instance, if you want to make opt-in pages and you need to heavily customize those pages. In this case, Thrive Content Builder will work best as it allows you to create customizable layouts. Even Beaver Builder is a great option.
Now if you want to create fully functional membership sites, OptimizePress is the top choice. You won’t need anything else aside from this plugin as it has everything you would be looking for.
If you are not fussy about advanced customization, LeadPages is for you. This plugin is the best choice if you prefer a platform that allows you to quickly create landing pages and split test them, too.
Take note that the plugins featured here have their own good points and downsides, so it is best to take a close look at each one. Visit their websites and check their materials and tutorials. This way, you can make a well-informed decision.
